ZOOMA Annapolis 2010

this morning, i officially ran my first 10k! honestly, i wasn't sure how it was going to go-- from the time i signed up, i had the mindset that i didn't want to do it if i couldn't run the whole thing. obviously, you can walk if you want, or run and walk. but i just wanted to run. however, in all my training sessions over the past couple of months, i made it to about 5 miles and quit. so i wasn't sure of how i was going to pull off 6 miles.

i started the race with my best friend, who was running the half marathon. we did the first 5-ish miles together before we had to split up, and honestly, running with her is what kept me going. she's been so encouraging because she knows i used to hate running and exercise, and it's hard for me to keep it up. but i ran with her at a pace of 10 minutes per mile, which is so good for me. when we split so i could finish and she could keep going, we definitely had one of our best friend bonding moments-- we're just so proud of each other and we encouraged each other as much as we could.

the last mile without her was kind of hard. it's been super humid out, so it didn't help that it was hot even at 7 a.m. that and not being used to doing a whole 6 miles caught up to me. but i just kept thinking about how good it would feel to cross the finish line knowing i ran the whole thing without giving up, and i made it! it was so awesome. i've never done anything like this before, and it was a great first experience. my time ended up being 1 hour, 16 minutes, 11 seconds. not too bad, i don't think :)

and after being up since 5 a.m. and in the hot sun all day, i'm exhausted. but it feels good :)
